  • Questions from Bowlers

How do I use GETAGAMEOFBOWLS to find a tournament or weekly social game ?
  • Click on the state you want to play in

  • If you want to play a social game click on the day you want to play on and choose a game from the list, clicking on 'details' to find out more about the game and the club

  • For a tournament look for the date you want to play on and the type of game you want to play in. You can sort the list by clicking on the column heading

  • Click on the 'play' link at the end of the row. You will receive full details of the club and the tournament

  • Can I enter a tournament through GETAGAMEOFBOWLS?
  • When I first set up getagameofbowls I included an email form for bowlers to use to make an entry. This proved unreliable and needed undesirable impediments to stop the clubs receiving spam. It is much simpler and and surer for you to ring the club or the club contact if a direct number is supplied

  • Does it cost me anything to make an entry?
  • There is no charge to bowlers entering tournaments or to clubs listing their tournaments.

  • If you are a full member of a bowling club you have playing rights at every other club in Australia and your entry should be accepted on the same terms as those applicable to a member of that club.

  • Will my email address be given away to anyone?
  • You no longer supply your email address when using this program

  • Questions from Clubs

How can my club list its tournaments on getagameofbowls?
  • A username and pin has been allocated to every known bowling club in Australia and this information has been sent wherever the email address is known. If your club has not yet received this information, go to the registration page by clicking here and you will receive this information within 24 hours.

  • I have the username and pin. How do I make an entry?
  • Go to getagameofbowls.com and click on the link 'add to list' at the top and bottom of any page.

  • Enter your username and pin.

  • If this is your club's first listing, spend time to update the club information which appears first on this page.

  • The address for the club should be the street address. Because this address is used by Google to produce both the area map and the satellite picture, what is shown may not be the one usually used by the club. In situations where the club in in a sporting reserve we may not have been able to find the greens using the usual address, in which case we clicked on the nearest property with a numbered postal address and used this to provide the satellite image. In such cases changing the addess may cause the greens to no longer appear. To check open google maps and try to find the club before changing the address

  • If possible include a direct telephone number for the contact person in this space eg John Smith 09823456765. .

  • If you have a club web site or facebook page enter the URL as www. ----- so that potential players can see more about your club than getagameofbowls offers. Do not include http// in what you enter of the link will fail

  • Under 'green location' and 'find greens' give information which will help strangers to your district get to your game on time.

  • Enter the details of your tournament.

  • Don't forget to put in both the tournament date and entry close date using the drop down lists provided

  • Place your tournament in one of the type shown in the drop down box, or enter the type of the tournament in the box below the list if it does not fit. You are not allowed to include your sponsors name as part of the type of tournament. For no cost to your club you can show the sponsor's name under the listing

  • Enter other details in full. Under prizes give some details of how prizes if any will be distributed If you have a sponsor enter the name of the sponsor here - it will appear on the tournament details page, on the state and national listings, and in the featured tournaments if you have asked for this option.

  • The 'additional information' can be quite long, and can include HTML tags to highlight details (dot points, bold, italique).

  • Users can sort tournaments by prizemoney. Because of this the total prizemoney must be entered as a number without a dollar sign, comma or spaces

  • How long will the listing appear for?
  • Your tournament will appear on the site from the day you list it until the day it is played, gradually moving to the top of the list.

  • Do I have to remove the listing when the tournament has been played?
  • The listing will disappear on the playing date.

  • When you have entered your user name and pin the tournament will still appear in the list of tournaments from your club at the foot of the page

  • Each time you log in we ask you to delete expired tournaments from your list unless you are likely to copy them at a later date. An annual tournament can stay there until you put it up for the next year. If you list a weekly social tournament then you should remove all expired instances

  • How can I edit the details of a tournament already listed?
  • Easily - click on edit in the torunamnet list at the foot of the tournament entry page

  • You can not change playing date in an edit - to change the date fill, change ddates and delete theoriginal

  • Delete the original

  • How do I list a weekly social tournament?
  • When you log on click on the list social games link.

  • You can then enter the details of your weekly tournaments. The first three items are chosen from drop down lists - we trying to have game titles which are understandable to bowlers in all states, so read the instructions

  • If you have a unique social game type email us with the rules and we will include it on the list with a link to the rules

  • After you have entered your first social game, a 'social' link will appear alongside your club's name in the list of clubs and the game will be in the list of games for that day for your state

  • At the bottom of the social game listing page there is a list of your games with links to allow you to edit or delete them

  • If you wish you can list social games as regular tournaments. This should mainly now apply to a weekly game which has above average prizemoney and perhaps a sponsor you want to show

  • You list it every week, but this takes very little time

  • When you have uploaded a tournament you will be asked whether you want to list a tournament with the same details for a week later. Two clicks later you the next one is in and you are asked about the following week

  • For a fortnightly tournament it would be sensible to put it in for every week and then delete the days on which it is not being played

  • We want list a tournament which is played monthly- can this be done quickly?
  • At the bottom of the listing page you will see a list of tournaments from your club currently on our database.

  • If you click 'fill'on one of these tournaments the entry form above will be filled in.

  • You then only have to enter the dates and make any other changes needed. Your additional monthly tournaments can be listed in less than a minute.

  • What is the cost of this service?
  • Listing on www.getagameofbowls.com is FREE

  • Every registered club has received 200 free 'ggpoints'. When you list a game your ggpoint balnce will be reduced, and when your club's credit balance falls below zero you will automatically receive an additional 500 ggpoints.

  • I hope that clubs making frequent use of the service will at that time make a voluntary contribution to their local branch of Legacy ( and tell us thet they have done so)

  • If we participate, do you have any expectations of our club?
  • YES - link your website to getagame or if you use a facebook page mention getagame in a post on your page or a link on that page to getagame

  • WWW.GETAGAMEOFBOWLS.COM will work for bowlers if there are a lot of listings from clubs and for clubs if lots of bowlers access the site.

  • If you list either tournaments or enter social games we expect you to subscribe to the GetagameGazette, a newsletter which will be issued several times per year. As well as providing some interesting material, the newsletter will be a regular reminder to you to check that your social game listings are accurate and that you have listed all of your tournaments. If you remove your name from the mailing list your weekly social games will be deleted.

  • I hope you will advertise your participation in club newsletters and at club meetings.

  • LINKS LINKS LINKS see below about how to link to getagame

  • What does it cost to list social games?
  • It will never cost you a cent to list social games. Each time you list a game in the 'weekly social games' section 25 ggpoints are deducted.

  • What does it cost to list prize money tournaments?
  • A tournament in which the total amount of prizemoney is shown 'costs' 2 ggpoints. If you want the prizemoney shown in large red type it will 'cost' 5 ggpoints

  • Can we show the name of the sponsor of our tournament?
  • Your sponsor's name will appear in the details of the tournament seen by any potential player who clicks on 'play'. There is no charge for this exposure

  • If your sponsors would like their name to appear in the listings (and stand out in red), it will 'cost' you an additional 20 ggpoints

  • . Since you automatically get an additional 500 ggpoints when your balance falls to zero, this costs you NOTHING, a very reasonable charge for up to 12 months exposure on a national web site!!!

  • You could certainly use this to market your club to sponsors.
  • There is a place on the tournament entry page where with one click you have the sponsor's name appearing in state listings.

  • How do we get our tournaments to appear in the state or national featured listing?
  • These features are selected during the listing of the tournament. If they are missed then the tournament can be edited and the fearure added
State featured events appear both in a separate list at the top of the state page and in the general listing and players can click to the tournament details page from either place. A state feature 'costs' an additional 20 ggpoints.

  • National featured events appear on the getagameofbowls.com home page and 'cost' an additional 20 ggpoints.

  • From 2015 on we include the names of sponsors in all tournaments you consider worth National of State featuring

  • Since these features are provided at no cost perhaps we should have some criteria for deciding that a tournament is worthy of state of national featuring. I am generally happy to leave it up to the listing clubs. A reasonable standard for national listing is that the tournament would be of interest to players from another state. Hence any 'different' tournament such as a 'one day open singles' could be featured. Otherwise prizemoney would need to be over $3000. For state featuring prizemoney over $1000

  • We do hope that many clubs will appreciate the benefits they are receiving from getagameofbowlsl choose to make a voluntary donation to their local Legacy club

  • What advantages come to our club from linking to Getagameofbowls from our web site??
  • Getagameofbowls links to you, and every link you get improves your web site search ranking
  • While improving the list of clubs in 2015 I visited over 400 bowling club websites. It is remarkable how few sites gave accurate information about club tournaments and social events. Those clubs which did show tournaments often had out of date events appearing - which explains why so few showed them!

  • If you list with getagame and your webmaster is able to include the 'rss feed' provided by us specific to your club, your tournaments listed on getagame will appear in your own web page in your page's normal style. Since tournaments on getagame disappear on the playing day, that will happen on your site, which will then not show any out of date games without your webmaster having had to take any action.

  • Some web pages can not use RSS feeds. We also provide a the code for a link which will open getagameof bowls in a new window, with the special feature that it will open directly to show all of your games at the top of your state listing

How can our webmaster link to getagame?
  • If you have a club website we expect that you will put a link to getagameofbowls.com in a prominent place. We provide an RSS feed of your tournaments which can be inserted in your web site followed by the tournaments in your state which can then be an additional feature of your web site.

  • If you have a web page prepared throught thr IMG system, the RSS feed will not work but we can supply you with a link which will show your club tournaments first and then show the tournaments in your state

  • The find a club section of getagame makes it possible for users to find the address, map and web page of any club in Australia in less than 5 seconds. The webmaster can use this link . You don't need to mention on your site that it comes from getagame

  • If you have a coaching page on your site a link to the getagame coaching pages would be worthwhile like this . Again you don't need to mention on your site that it comes from getagame
