Getagame Gazette The Social Game Listing Page for your Bowling Club Most people who receive this newsletter come from clubs which have listed their weekly social games on getagameofbowls. This listing allows bowlers to see a list of clubs in their state who play a weekly social on any day of the week - here is the top of the list for Tuesdays in Queensland. There are 917 weekly games on the site today. If your club has a listed social game then in the findaclub listing for your club there wil be a social link like these from the Victorian g-n listing This link goes to a page uniquely for your club showing all of its weekly games. Many clubs do advertise their weekly socials on their web page, but they rarely have anywhere near as much information about these games as is provided on getagame. It makes sense to include a direct link on the bowls page of your web site to the club's getagame socials page. Advertise yourclub or an Important Sponsor Getagame is free and one of the free items I offer clubs is the ability to advertise the club or a major sponsor on the club’s unique pages. Have a look at this weekly socials page from my club BrightonSA or this tournament details page from Park Beach Coffs Harbor If you want to put this feature on your pages just send me a photo file of what you want to appear to me (attached to an email) and I will put it in there for you. The advertisement should be up to 800 wide and up to 400 high. The photo will appear on the weekly social page, beneath the street and google earth maps and on the details page for any tournament you list. I would like to be kept busy putting lots of photos on the site. Mobile Phone App For Measuring I recently heard about a mobile phone app which can be used for measuring. This app is called ‘mMesure’. My mobile phone skills reflect my age but I was able to master it after a few trials Measuring with the app involves four simple steps. Taking a photo within the system Centering a cross on the jack Placing the cross on the first bowl to measure and centering the bowl inside a circle Then moving to other bowls in the measure. As soon as you place the cross on the bowl it numbers all of the bowls I tested the accuracy of mMesure by setting up bowls several times using my string measure or trammels with calipers so that there was 1mm difference. Each time I did this the app got it right. You can see by the screenshot on the left that there is no need to carefully centre the bowls. One problem with the app is that it can be difficult to see your screen in full sun. It is not approved as a method of measuring so you cant use it in a game.
