Terms Used in Weekly Social Listings

This site is used by bowlers all over Australia and there are variations in the meanings of some words. For example we do not use the word 'open' because it has three different meanings. These are some of the terms we use

  • Mixed Pairs or fours - equal numbers of men and women, sometimes women playing lead and third

  • Cosmopolitan or Any Gender or Open Gender - men and women can play in any position, can be all men or all women

  • Social Mixed, Men or Women - the game played depends on the number of entries - ring before you go

  • Entry type - 'single entry' is known as 'drawn' and 'team entry' is known as 'nominated' in some states

  • Scroungers, Mixnmingle, Skins and other games - For information about such games click on this link ideas for tournaments & social games" As clubs tell me about innovative social games I am adding them to this

    Become a Supporter of Getagameofbowls

You are invited to become a supporter of Getagameofbowls by subscribing to the bi-monthly newsletter.

Each time you receive the newsletter you can check whether your club has its tournaments listed on getagameofbowls and that the information about social games at your club is accurate. I aim to never have out of date information on the site, and regularly reminding supporters all over Australia to check their weekly socials may help to achieve this goal.

I also hope that the newsletter be of interest to most bowlers. It includes featured articles and links to other items of general interest to bowlers.
